Yash’s adventures with life, business and technology

19 Jul 2007Past couple of months have been action packed! Lots of new things have been happening around.
First Uconomix moved into a new office. Finally after spending two years in my home, Uconomix found its own office!
Then we launched a new website, got a new logo and also launched a new product – SnapLogger. SnapLogger is a visual time tracking tool. It basically runs in the system tray and takes screenshots of the computer at regular intervals. It can then play back the screenshots like a movie so one can see what he did on the computer the whole day. This comes in handy when you have to fill up a timesheet, or have to calculate the time you spent on a particular project. This software will be a boon to those who need to track their time. If you have ever wondered about how and when you spent your time on a specific day then SnapLogger is worth having a look at. Check it out. SnapLogger is available in two versions – a free Lite version which has basic features and a Pro version which has advanced security and privacy features.
New logo – For some time now I was think about a new logo. My friend Ullas first pointed out to me that the old logo was looking too much classic and that we needed a new logo to enhance our “brand visibility” whatever, but I agreed because somehow I had started feeling uncomfortable about the old logo. I looked around for ideas and inspirations. I wanted the logo to be clear and crisp and readable. I also wanted bright, energetic colours which would give the logo a refreshing look. I decided on the Blue-Orange combination because I don’t know why but I would end up choosing that colour for most of my other logos. Logo of uMark, Janoos, Wish A Name, LogoTales all had blue and orange. Later on I found why I liked that combination when I came across this link about colours on the web – colour theory and colour matching. There’s a nice colour wheel on this page which shows the combinations of colours which are pleasing to the eyes.

As expected Orange and blue is one of the great combinations. They are complementary colors. So I decided to go ahead with an orange and blue logo.
New site – I’ve made quite a few changes to the site. Earlier each of the products had their separate microsotes within the main Uconomix.com site which made cross selling and cross promotion of products difficult. Now its like a single site with different products which people can add to a shopping cart and checkout when they are done shopping. Now there’s a single payment processing page and a single visitor tracking system so I can know how people are browsing the site. And with this new site we have completely morphed into a software products company. Yes Uconomix is not an IT services company anymore. We have three products in the market and we are developing more. We have moved away from IT services and stop accepting new projects. Hopefully we’ll be able to give India its first Microsoft, Adobe or Macromedia someday!
